“It’s a dangerous business, going out of your door. You step into the Road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there is no knowing where you might be swept off to. Do you realize that this is the very path that goes through Mirkwood, and that if you let it, it might take you to the Lonely Mountain or even further and to worse places?”

- Bilbo Baggins

Hand-painted on silk. If you are confused how to look at it, follow the road in a spiral from the door to the center.

Just wanted to let you know that the Narrative art work on the right with the rose dragon in the top right corner was not made by madbatter as he claims.

The artwork was created by David E. Alter Jr. in 1982 and was featured in a book of postcards published in 2007, "Tolkien's Hobbit and Lord of the Rings postcard book"
:)

Really wanted to give the REAL artist the credit here, it's LONG overdue and he deserves the true accolades.
Thanks!

I love the idea of painting like this onto silk! The style works really nicely, and I love the bright colours - perfect for the feel of The Hobbit as opposed to LOTR. The distinct 'scenes'/figures are perhaps a little indistinct, but I suspect that's partly due to the transfer from original to digital image. The party of dwarves and Gandalf is particularly good - glad you remembered their multi-coloured hoods even if the film makers didn't! Nice work, welld one =)

&& thanks for the fave!

Thank you very much! It really was hard to take a photo that would look similar to original, the silk is semi-transparent, and looks very different with various light-sources. The lines are actually golden, but with light from front they would glisten too much and make it hard to see the shapes, so I had to take a photo with light behind. I didn't have the book at hand, so I don't know if the colors of hoods are right, but at least they are there :) It seems film makers traded hoods for crazy hairstyles :D

Those are two words, actually, but it's not such big error when I describe such cute thing, after all ;)
I always adored those drawings. It's just so amazing what you can make on silk :love:
